Station Manager

Seamus Conwell

20-year-old Seamus is a final year undergraduate student of the Economics, Politics and Law degree.

In October 2009 he joined DCUfm as part of the sports team and presented the sports show ‘Action Replay’. Seamus also co-produced and co-presented the current affairs show ‘Newswire’ while reading news bulletins on the station.

The Mayo man was assistant news director for 2010/2011, his roles included oversight of the news reading roster, production of the current affairs show ‘Newswire’ and presenting and reporting on various political issues.

Seamus has previously presented a show on RTE Raidio na Gaeltachta, appeared twice on RTE’s News of the Day in relation to his home town Foxford and has been published in the Western People newspaper.

Seamus was a member of a ‘Newswire’ team that won the National Student Media Award for News and Current Affairs in 2010. He was shortlisted for the same category and also for website production at the 2011 awards.

Seamus is also a DCU Student Ambassador.

Deputy Station Manager

Russell James Alford

20- year-old Russell James is a final year student studying Contemporary Culture & Society in DCU.

Russell James began his radio career in Transition Year when RTE 2FM came to his school in Skerries, Co. Dublin for their TY Radio show on which, Russell presented two features. This was followed by a summer of work experience working on Late Night Live on Newstalk.

He joined DCUfm in November 2009  and started presenting “The Open Line” once a week, increasing to twice a week in Semester 2 of the year. The show was a mix of discussion, news and views as well as a bit of fun. He also acted as Series Producer for the show during the week. In his 2nd year he continued to present this show once a week.

Russell won “Student Radio DJ of the Year” at the National Student Media Awards in April 2010, judged by RTE 2FM DJ, Ruth Scott.

Following on from this, Russell worked on Open FM, Ireland’s first LGBT Radio station, as presenter of the Breakfast Show every Weekday. He later became Assistant Programme Director of the station.

Technical Manager

Cian Mac Mahon

20-year-old Cian is a second year student studying Multimedia and specialising in Film Production

In 2005, Cian because the youngest weekly podcaster in the world, and quickly made the transition to the youngest fully sponsored podcaster with his show View From The Quad, which completed its 215 episode run last year. He also hosted the widely popular Starting WoW, an experiment to see how quickly a niche show can gain a large listenership. Starting WoW quickly outgrew VFTQ, and was also fully sponsored by several companies.

Cian joined DCUfm in 2010, rebroadcasting View From The Quad and starting Occam’s Barbershop, a show about skepticism and science. Most notably, Occam’s Barbershop hosted a live concert in The Exchange, Dublin at which well knownAmerican Skeptic and musician George Hrab played.

Cian has also hosted segments on Spin 103.8.

Cian has spent the last 12 years of his life steeped in internet culture, and hopes that this doesn’t translate into his work at DCUfm.
